Mixtape 4 - Sunburn Is Win
I got sunburnt today, that's a win in anyones book. Finally summer is starting to show its face. Here's a mixtape to congratulate November for finally putting on a day worth lying in the sun for.
It has been a long time since a mixtape. Theres been a heap of good music coming out at the moment, and ive compiled lists and lists of potential mixtapes, however it changes everyday, so im just going to upload it now.
Home Video - The Smoke - The latest single to leak from Brooklyn duo Home Video is 'The Smoke', an eery and really beautiful song. Simple and subtle is the formula for this track. I'm looking forward to the new album which will drop on the 16th Novemeber, be sure to check it out!
Matt & Kim - Good For Great - I've been a big fan of Matt & Kim for quite a while now, and this has to be one my most anticipated albums of the year. It was hard to pick a song to put up, they are all great, and all in all its a great album. It's not quite as raw as 'Grand', i love the roughness of that album, and i feel this may have been over-produced a little. However, its is still great, and i can't wait for these two to come out again.
The War On Drugs - Comin' Through - This song reminds me of so many songs. The lead singer, Adam Granduciel, has a Bruce Springsteen(esque) sound to him that i thoroughly enjoy. Add to that some ecstatic guitar and a dreamy drum beat (almost a little Fleetwood Mac) and you have yourself a great song that reflects on the past, while being firmly planted in the present.
Grouplove - Naked Kids - Love this song at the moment, but firstly, go find yourself the selftitled EP, its wicked. This song has summer written all over it, right from the quirky lyrics to the hand clapping chorus.
Caribou - Odessa (Junior Boys Remix) - I have loved the original of this track since it was released, and i still think its an amazing song. I also love Junior Boys, therefore this song must be awesome. Junior Boys have put there distinctive electronic touch on this classic track by Caribou and works in every way.
Vonnegutt - Bright Eyes - Ok so its a little bit college party, but i cant get enough of it at the moment! There's something about that guitar and the beat and the guys voice that makes you wanna dance around a pool full of hot chicks (www.hotchicksaresohot.com).
Gotye - Eyes Wide Open - The newest from Gotye (may have heard it on triple j this week) is great. Gotye have always produced some tight tunes, and this is no different. 'Eyes Wide Open' is a pretty epic little song that starts slow and explodes in true Gotye style by the end. Looking forward to the new album.
Twin Shadow - A Place We Like (Feat. Hooray For Earth) - What is it with Brooklyn at the moment, they must have a 'good music manufacturing plant' stuffed away somewhere in that suburb. Twin Shadow's album 'Forget', (released earlier this year) is fantastic, and this follow up track with Hooray for Earth is a great sign of things to come. If you like his other stuff, youll love this.
Oh No Oh My - Summerdays - A slow sun soaked afternoon with a g&t and this song playing in the background and im pretty much happy. Im really enjoying this sought of indie-pop/dream sound at the moment, and having supported bands such as the Flaming Lips and Gnarles Barkely its no surprise these boys from Texas can bust out a tune or two.
The XX - VCR (Four Tet Remix) - Firstly, yes im devastated ill be missing Four Tet and Playground next year. Secondly, this is amazing. Released about 6 weeks ago i think (could be older) this song is a showcase of how good both The XX and Four Tet really are. The remix takes what was a great song and turns into a genre crossing masterpiece.
Family of the Year - Summer Girl - I had to end the summer mixtape on a song that had summer in it, and the word girl, oh and this is also incredible. I friend of mine over at 'hot chicks are so hot' put me onto this delicious band not long ago, and since then this song has even managed to make it on to my Dads ipod. Its sad, its sexy, its slow, its cool, its Summer Girl.
MIXTAPE 4 - SUNBURN IS WIN
So there we have it. The fourth mixtape. I hope you enjoy it. Take care and enjoy the sun!
