Young Rebel Set

Straight away you can tell these guys are from England, that thick and distinct accent grabs your ears and makes you listen! Young Rebel Set are a collaborative band, consisting of 3 de facto groups and have released a total of 3 EP's since mid last year, all of which are solid. They remind of the Wombats in a way, but with more folk, soul and harmonica. Won't Get Up Again is there first EP of 2010, it's worth checking out (available through itunes). It's the kind of music that makes you want to get drunk and shout along with it. Enjoy.

Aeroplane Split

Belgium Duo Aeroplane (Vito De Luca and Stephen Fasano) announced they would be splitting earlier this month. Together they've done some great albums and remixes. Its a shame to see them part ways, however the Aeroplane name will continue to live, as Vito intends to continue releasing under the name.

“There is no angriness here, no conflicts to come, just a mature decision to save what we’ve been building together and that both of us do not want to see disappear,” De Luca said of the split.

All the best to them. Here are a couple of their better tracks of late.
Aeroplane - We Can't Fly
Breakbot - Baby I'm Yours (Aeroplane Remix)

Chicago: Lightning Storm

Who doesn't like a good lightning storm? This guy has captured a pretty unique occurrence during the recent string of huge storms across Chicago. Three building hit by three bolts all at the same time. The second video is more footage from the same guy, on the same day. Amazing stuff.

"One Spring Day"

It's absolutely mind blowing what photographers are doing with DSLR cameras. The Full HD capabilities of these cameras is allowing the average person to create cinema like movies. This vid is one of the best examples of HD DSLR filming i've seen, its so evocative, so crisp, and so engaging. Obviously a hell of a lot of post-shoot editing is needed to create something of this calibre, however long gone are the days of the annoying DV tape cameras and bulky 3 chips.

This is a short film edited/filmed etc by the same dude. Powerful stuff. All shot on HD DSLR.

Timeless Watch

After my post a few days ago about wearing watches, i think I've stumbled across a solution, the Timeless Watch from Rogan NYC. This way you don't have to break the old habit of checking your phone for the time, and you can look the part as well! Created with old watch parts, each time(less) piece is completely unique.

Lomography Spinner 360°

Everyone loves taking a good photo, and everyone loves looking at good photos. I stumbled upon this impressive camera that uses a normal 35mm film, but takes a full 360 degree panoramic photograph. Head over to the Lomography website to see the full potential of this awesome camera. I am very keen to buy one of these and give it whirl, looks like a hell of a lot of fun. There going for 135 Euros, and can be purchased directly from the site.

Tim Noble and Sue Webster: Shadow sculpture

Artists Tim Noble and Sue Webster play with lights function of revealing things that may at first be invisible. Spot lights shine on a seemly randomly piled heap of rubbish, as if saying “look at this trash!”. The hidden art is actually revealed in the play of light and shadow. Its got a bit of a 'don't judge a book' - 'one mans trash' feel to the whole collection. I have no idea how they come up with the sculptures, or how they construct them, all i know is that its extremely clever, and its unusual looking at the photos and thinking 'wow, thats pretty cool' when its a pile of rubbish. There's a whole lot of information about the collection scattered around the web, so if you like what you see go check more out.

Gold Panda

"Hailing from Chelmsford, Essex, Gold Panda spent the early part of last year building a reputation as remixer du jour for the likes of Little Boots, Telepathe, Bloc Party, Simian Mobile Disco, Health and The Field, before releasing three EPs of his own material in the summer to huge critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, Dazed and Confused, The Guardian, NME and beyond."

Below are two fantastic tracks from the "You" EP which was released this week. There is a very rare and limited LP floating around that was released recently as well that I'm yet to get my hands on, if these two track are anything to go by it should be a cracker.

Here's the download links to the tracks! Enjoy.

Super W

RetroSuperFuture recently released their new W range. The W represents their retro-futuristic style to perfection, they look simply awesome. I especially like the Summer Safari style. Good luck finding a pair though, as only a limited number were released, and MIA ordered a pair in each colour so theres even less out there now.

Fixies Are The New Rollerblades

The creative crew over at Pulp68 dropped their latest graphic in the form of these "Fixies Are The New Rollerblades" stickers. I'm not sure who will be more offended, the fixies or the bladers.

Snow Time

Winter is here, and its getting colder with each day that passes, which just makes me think about going skiing more and more everyday. Heres a couple of freshly released teasers from upcoming skiing and snowboarding videos. Go try on your ski gear and walk around the house (everyone does it).

This is a clip from the Armada 2010 Team Video featuring Tanner Hall.

Here is a first look at F’It, Special Blend, Forum and Foursquare’s 7th cumulative feature length film. Starring all our favourite sponsored riders wearing some epic new SB, Forum and Foursquare gear, which im hoping will be released very soon.

A Long Way Home Trailer. These kids can ski.

Timex 80 Classic Print Collection

I can't really pinpoint the time at which i stopped wearing watches, but it may have been about the age of 13, in between realising the Rolex Dad gave me from  Singapore was fake and the point at which i got my first 5110 Nokia phone. Needless to say, i found it an unnecessary accessory for a long time. However here we have a preview of the new Timex 80 Classic Print Collection, which has followed the re-release of the Timex 80 a few years back. This is the first time the brands attempted anytime of printing on their watches, and i think its working rather well. It's time to wear a watch again.

Whale Beach - Welcome to Winter

After 3 months of pretty much no swell, Sydney has been blessed with offshores and consistant swell for the past 2 weeks, and it looks like continuing that way for the next week at least. Whale Beach has had some epic waves over the past few days, this morning i took the camera down and snapped a few shots before getting out there. Da booga is back, get amongst it.

Nigel Sylvester and Gatorade Go All Day

So apparently fixies are all the shizniz at the moment, and if your not riding backwards down crown street without a front break then your not scene. Well, check this vid showcasing NYC BMX rider Nigel Sylvester and a few of his mates in a short film put together by Gatorade. This day in the life vid makes you wanna dust off the old BMX, call a mate and give him a lift on your back pegs.

Graeme Clark/The Revenge /6th Borough Project

UK producer Graeme Clark is the man behind the epic-deep-dsico sounds of "The Revenge" and "6th Borough Project" (amongst various other alias's). He's coming to our shores for the We Love Sounds festivals that are kicking off this weekend around Australia. "The Revenge" is a more upbeat deep house disco sound that is addictive, dark and moody. His tunes are full of body-vibrating bass lines and catchy little riffs. "6th Borough Project" leans more towards the slower, groovier side of that disco sound, with some great vocal samples sneaking into a lot of his tracks. Its safe to say that he's going to absolutely kill at We Love, and for those in Sydney on Saturday night, "Picnic" is hosting The Revenge at the Civic Undergraound, surely to be a wicked night.

Here are a couple of tracks for your enjoyment.

The Revenge - Forever In Their Debt

6th Borough Project - Planets (The Revenge Lost Groove)

6th Borough Project - Do It To The Max

Peace.
