The 7am Drop

The above photos are from Sasha playing at Warung Beach Club in Brazil over the summer. I was there in February to see Solomun play with about 20 of my closest friends- it's by far the best clubbing experience of my life, the place is absolutely amazing, sitting in the middle of nowhere right on a pristine beach, in the middle of jungle. Its positioned in such a way that the sun rises up behind the crowd straight onto the DJ booth, pretty surreal stuff.

Now, with that in mind:
Andy Cato is part of Groove Armada, and in 2008 he produced this house song that is purely amazing. If listening to this doesn't make you smile and think of partying in summer on some dudes balcony over look the harbour then there is something seriously wrong with you. It's called 'The 7am Drop', cause hearing this at 7am as the sun rises over the ocean off Brzail would be pretty good i reckon.

Pencil Art - Whoa!

Cool right? I can't even begin to imagine how this guy goes about creating these little sculptures, but they are pretty mind blowing. A carpenter by trade, Dalton Ghetti produces these little masterpieces as a hobby using razors, sewing needles, sculpting knives and insane skill. He said the 'hobby' started during school while hand sharpening pencils, this guy must have had some serious down time at school.

The Naked And Famous

From just across the Tasman, these young fellas (and girl) from New Zealand are making big waves in the indie music scene. I got my hands on their new album last night (released yesterday) and its packed full of sing-along hip-thrusting 'cant wait for summer' choooons. The song below 'Young Blood' was released as a single in June, (accompanied by an awesome video clip) and it hit the top of the New Zealand charts for a couple of weeks. 'Young Blood' is an instant hit, it's their very own 'Sleepyhead' or 'Kids'. The 13 track album is full of indie anthems, these guys will be huge over the summer, you've been warned.

NWC - Job Hunting

With good intention we went searching for a job, instead we found a playground for the sector 9s. Jobs can wait. NWC.

Underworld - Barking

Britains Karl Hyde and Rick Smith (Underworld) have been producing iconic electronic music for an astonishing 30 years. The release of 'Barking' on 13th September will be their first studio album in 3 years, and its packed full of goodness. We were treated with a teaser track 'Scribble' earlier in the year which received a whole lot of love from the music world, and got the nod of approval from avid Underworld fans.

Written by Karl and Rick in their UK studio, the tracks selected for the album were then handed on to a variety of 'studio heads' to add some of their own style and creativity to the bands raw material (see track listing below)

This new 10 track release takes you on a nice journey from the ambient/chill sound of 'Louisiana' and 'Simple Peal' into that all to familiar house sound with 'Diamond Jigsaw' and 'Grace'. The diversity of Underworlds albums have always been their biggest appeal for me. 'Barking' showcases a range of genres, from house, breaks, drum n' bass, chill-wave and ambient. This collection of tunes is definitely worth checking out!
