FM BELFAST - Underwear

A. This is a great song, by a great band - FM Belfast, who hail from that country with the volcano problem.
B. This film clip is amazing. It was edited, filmed, produced etc by Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan aka DANIELS. These guys have produced some great short films together. Check out their websites for some of their other stuff
C. The asian guy in the film clip, is actually Daniel Kwan himself. After shooting the film clip (where he is wearing about 8 layers of clothes) his laundry bag got stolen, leaving him with all but a few t shirts and pair of jeans in his wardrobe. Poor guy, sick film clip tho.

And, here is the MP3!!!!
Fm Belfast - Underwear

Six Foot 9 - When It Rains Mixtape

There's so much good music coming out at the moment it's hard to keep track of it all. So, this here's the first 6foot9 mixtape. 12 songs showcasing whats been out and about recently (plus a couple of older choons that I'm still loving). It's a lovelly mix of genres, spanning indie-triphop-disco-(whatever you'd call Sleigh Bells). Put it in the car, turn it up and pretend its still summer.

When It Rains Mixtape:
1. Cover My Eyes (Costra Nostra Edit) - Major Lazer & La Roux
From the recently released LazerProof collaboration between Major Lazor and La Roux, its available online all over the place, im sure you can find it!

2. Wont You Tell Me (feat. Kid Cudi) - Rich Hill
Kid Cudi is plain cool, and after watching the first season of How To Make It In America (See earlier post), he's somehow cooler. This isnt his best work, but its new, and worth a listen.

3. On Your Side - Alex Kemp
From an old 90's Indie band Small Factory, this is Alex Kemp. This is the first track off a series of 'to be released' EPs over the next year. Its got a Whitest Boy Alive sound to it, its nice.

4. Jimmy Had A Polaroid - Math and Physics Club
Math and Physics Club are so good at songs that make you happy and kinda sad at once, this is one.

5. Belong - Washed Out
Released in 2009, this is one of those 'older choons'. Washed Out are from the States, and I look forward to their new album being released later this year.

6. My Keys, Your Boyfriend - Everything Everything
A wicked band, yet to release an album, this song is awesome, a very unique sound, release the album already.

7. Wash My Hands - Kormac
Get this album (Kormac - Worplay) which features DJ Yoda, Koaste (Black Grass,) DJ Cheeba (Solid Steel/Ninja Tunes,) Messiah J & The Expert, MC Little Tree and more. It was released in April and is a cool blend of trip-hop, jazz, hip-hop.

8. Can't Shake This Feeling - Grum
I'm kind of getting over the whole 80s revival/disco sound that any kid with a keyboard seems to be producing nowadays, however this caught my attention, it'll make you tap your foot.

9. Tell 'Em - Sleigh Bells
You'll either a. love this OR b. hate this. Sleigh Bells sound like a raw, unadulterated Crystal Castles. Its loud and its noisey, and its growing on me. The album is worth a listen.

10. Three Trees - Tanlines
Love Tanlines, Love this song. Their 'Settings' Ep is fantastic, this is a track off it.

11. When Your Love is Safe - Active Child
Soaring vocals and crunching analogue synths. This track is off the 'Curtis Lane EP'

12. Out Of Touch - Marching Band
A fun little cover released a couple of days ago by Swedish indie-pop band Marching Band. These guys are awesome. New album out soon too.

No Kids - Judy At The Grove

No Kids is a dreamy indie pop band from Vancouver BC. They released an LP in 2008, "Come into My House", the title track of which was a great tune, also check Bluster In The Air, the whole album is actually worth a listen. Their new EP "Judy At The Grove" (released this week) gives us four new tracks as a sneak peak into what could be a second full-length album in the not too distant future. It's hard to sum up No Kids' sound; its not dancey, it's not loud and it's not overtly different, but it is chilled, it is easy listening, and its worth having in the library. Hope you enjoy it.

Ill upload some songs off the EP in a couple of days. In the mean time, check out there myspace, and also check out a band called 'P:ano'. This band includes all the member of No Kids, plus a few more and have released some really cool, lo-fi indie stuff.

As promised, a couple of their songs

No Kids - At The Grove

No Kids - I Want To Be Around

Peace.

Dana Lee

This is the new collection from New York-based designer Dana Lee. Lots of denim, and two-tone dying, I think it works pretty well. It's currently only available through Opening Ceremony.

Nas & Damien Marley - Distant Relatives

Following up their previous collaboration on the track Road to Zion from Damian Marley’s 'Welcome to Jamrock' album, Nas and Jr. Gong (Marley) have just released their collaborative album 'Distant Relatives', inspired by Nas and Damian’s shared African ancestry. Theres something cool about mixing hip-hop with reggae, "We're trying to have a sound that's reminiscent of both of us, but not exactly like either," said Nas about the album. They recorded the album with live bands, children choirs, and a range of other artists such as Joss Stone, Lil Wayne, K'naan and Stephen Marley. Below are two tracks off the album (released tomorrow). Already getting a flogging on my itunes, enjoy these gems!

Heres a cool little video about making the album.

Stornoway - Beachcombers Windowsill

Stornoway is a British alternative indie pop band from Oxford, UK. The lead singer has a great voice, it reminds me a little of the singer from Band of Horses. The debut album "Beachcombers Windowsill" is due for release in a few weeks, definitely worth checkin out. The album has been in the making for about 5 years (since the band started at Oxford University in 2005), and i think its been truly worth the wait, its 11 perfect songs. "I Saw You Blink" almost has a Beatles/Beach Boys sound to it, and the rest of album follows suit with some great tunes. The two songs below are the two first tracks off the CD. Love them. Here's a great article about the band and the new LP

Deep Forest - Sweet Lullaby

I came across this song a long while back, I'm sure a lot of you have heard it, but it was brought up by a friend the other day and i thought i would share it on here. Its got an eeriness to it that you don't hear too often.

Incase you were wondering about the origins of the vocal:
In 1971, a French ethnomusicologist recorded a woman named Afunakwa singing a song called Rorogwela. She lived in the Solomon Islands, near Papua New Guinea. Deep Forest sampled the music, and used it in their song "Sweet Lullaby." But the song is anything but sweet. It's a sad story about a sister and her brother, as she is trying to calm her little brother after the loss of their parents. It says that even though their parents are gone, they still have each other.

The literal translation of the song goes something like this
"Little brother, little brother, stop crying, stop crying
Though you are crying and crying, who else will carry you
Who else will groom you, both of us are now orphans
From the island of the dead, their spirit will continue to look after us
Just like royalty, taken care of with all the wisdom of such a place..."

Its a cool song, with a great story. Below is a video containing a re-edit that Deep Forest did of the track in 2003.

This is too good.

Löko! Piek & Efron!

Big room, funky tech house at its finest. Loko is from Argentina, and you can really hear the South American influence in his music. If these two tracks don't want to make you get up and dance then there's something wrong with you. He's only young, keep your ears on this dude.

Marcromism - Tribute to Saturn (Loko Remix)

Christian Malloni - Aqua Ardiente (Loko Remix)

Peik & Efron are 2 guys from Spain also making some epic stuff at the moment. This track has been getting played by some huge names lately such as Luciano, Reboot and Uner. I cant seem to stop listening to this, theres something about the old school vocal thats makes me wanna grooooooove.

Piek & Efron - Una Mirada

Peace.

Hundreds....

This guy and girl band are from Germany. I dont quite know what you'd call their sound. I dont know anything about them, no one seems to, but theyve put together a pretty solid first album. Their self titled debut LP has been released in Germany only a couple of days ago. Below are 2 of the better songs from the album, and they both sound completely different to each other, theres something about 'I Love My Harbour' that i cant get enough of.

Hundreds - I Love My Harbour

Hundreds - Happy Virus

Cory's Left - Somewhere in Africa

This is a joke. They found this wave by searching on google maps. Its in Africa. Its named after Corey Lopez who was the first to surf, his first wave they reckon was over a mile long.

The Radio Dept. - Clinging to a Scheme

Sweden does cool shit. Air France is one my favourite bands of the last couple of years, and along with similar bands like JJ, Beirut, Boat Club, Studio and The Embassy they form a little sub-genre of Swedish indie-pop-soughta-sounding fun.
The Radio Dept.'s new LP 'Clinging to a Scheme' sits somewhere between the sounds of Air France and Tough Alliance - its chilled and a little bit different, definitely worth a listen. Heaven of Fire is one of the best tracks on the album. check it out!

The Radio Dept. - Heaven's on Fire

The Radio Dept. - The Video Dept.

Would love to see some of the bands listed make there way over here.

Luca M - Pamphlet LP

Luca M is 20 years old, he's from romania (the new Ibiza) and his new Pamphlet LP is awesome. At his tender young age he's already worked with guys like Ben Anders, YNK and Rhadow. Grooving baselines, soft vocals and that rolling house sound make this an ease to listen to. I cant pick a favourite track on the album. Here are few links, check them out.

Luca M - Tool 19 (Original Mix)

Luca M - Deep Thing (Original Mix)

Luca M - Tul O Nain ( Original Mix)

Peace.

Nordic Ease

Nordic fashion is more than the Cheap Monday and Nudie jeans you see every other general pants groupie wearing nowadays. The Swedes are still producing some insanely cool clothes, they always have, you just have know where to look.

'Odeur' is relatively new brand, founded in 2006, and for their spring/summer '10 range they've put together some forward thinking, unique and classy looks.

Peace.
